Urban Forum hosted by Mayor Daley

Lots of driving. About four hours back to Chicago and about 3 and a half back to school. Got there Sunday around 2am or so and was on the campus of UIC by about 7:40am. We weren't sure if we, Ed and I, would get the credientials but everything went smooth. Lots of people there, got more to say but maybe later.

football scrimmage

Been a long time since I shot any football. Shot some practice a few weeks back when my fingers damn near froze off but the weather was a lot nicer. Guessing 70's or so. Went out with next year's photo editor to show the basics.

Had some trouble with the thumb focusing but still got some decent shots. Rusty I guess but sure wish I had this lens first semester. Gonna miss it when I graduate.

Portrait: Denise May

Paper is doing a feature on Macomb Police officer Denise May. She's one of two women on the force. Story runs in Monday's paper.

The shoot went alright. She was pretty easy to work with but wish I had her do several facial expressions instead of the same one just for some variety. Plus I don't know the tone of the article. I'd imagine just regular feature but never know. Wonder if people take her seriously. Serious face would've been good for some. Guess I forgot after Rocky and his one expression. I'll try to remember for next time.

Sure glad the rain didn't start till later. Anyways, got cover letters to work on and praying a job opens up somewhere. We'll see.

Rocky

Had a portrait shoot with our school mascot earlier today. It was different since he doesn't speak when in costume so just hand motions. Either way, guess it worked out alright on short notice.

Just haven't really done any black and white in a while. Whatever runs in the paper is color.

Cop stop

A pic from a few weeks back.

cop stop
Saw a lot of squad cars around campus, didn't know what was going on. Checked the next morning at the police briefing, they said it was nothing.

Rained a bit when I was out there. Sitting in the office and I think it's still raining. Covered some tennis earlier but think they had a rain delay. This should be the last assignment for the day and then taking a much needed nap.

The crops are kind of wide because I'm trying to post the pics from my smugmug site instead of flickr.

Before all this, went to a wedding dress thingamajig. Won a door prize but I passed. Partly because I'm a journalist and also because I'm a guy. I really wish I remembered to put the 50mm on earlier. Pics look so much better than the 16-35. Even though the 16-35 is like $1000 more than the 50mm, it's still so much more effective in this situation. Blah. Well I need a nap after I get those pics up.

Dillon's

Driving to the office and found Dillon's bulldozed. Went down earlier in the day according to someone I talked to at Pierce Liquors next door. Dillon's went out of business a while back.
