Just some people
Just some Courier folks. Pics from the last few days.
Martyn
Rob
And also something unrelated, Didn't have anything to do with the headline "TRIPLE THREAT" for the campus threat on Thursday. Just don't want anyone getting confused or anything.

soft/base ball
Getting pretty chilly out there. Got a busy weekend full of double headers for both and some football tomorrow morning at 9am. Luckily, got 2 photographers shooting the rest. Might work in another game on Sunday if I have any time.
Women won 10-0 over Centenary and not sure about the second game. Missed the end of the mens game since I was going back and forth trying to get the camera handoff's organized between the three of us. Well, pics...
Men lost 6-5 to Clarke.

Not in Kansas anymore
Long day today. Before my morning portrait with Holly, got a call about the campus threat. It's about a bi-monthly thing here at WIU. Headed over to the office to pick up a few reporters and headed over to the press conference for info. Actually got a direct audio source from the local NPR station for the video so that was cool. Karen shot that video.
Got started editing, grabbed some food, went to class. Canceled because of the threat. Went back to the office, had a 1:50 portrait to shoot over at the library. Saw some cops around, got a few pics. Portrait went alright. Almost but not quite with the pics. Books were cool. Really old. Headed back to the office, got more editing done and got a quick few shots of the bomb squad truck outside the office.
Total of 3 threats today. I got 4 hours of sleep calling my name. I'm outta here.

Tennis Today
Trying to get Karen the future news editor to shoot some sports so I came out to try and help with tennis. I mostly shot mens but got some womens too. I know there's photographers that say it's not the gear but the photographer. Now that I'm shooting with pro glass that the paper recently got, everything is a hell of a lot easier. Maybe I've just got more experience but I know I couldn't get some of these shots with the Promaster 70-300 lens. Still got a lot of work to do. Very busy weekend of baseball, softball and football coming up next.

baseball vs. IOWA
Just got back in town on Sunday. Sports got into the office about 30 minutes later and found out there was a baseball game going on. Headed over, shot some. It was kinda cold. Either way, first time using the 80-200mm and loved it. Wish I had a 300mm but hey, one step at a time. Happy with what I got.

It's a zoo out there
Decided to send my resume/portfolio and all that out for critique first before sending it out to papers. Really need to get that done tomorrow.

Photographing with the End in Mind
Came across this article on Photographybay.com by Rich Legg. It's about pre-visualizing your shot. Something very helpful when trying to do photo illustrations. We tend to run a lot of graphics by the graphics guys over at the paper. While they are a big help, I hope our editors don't forget the creativity that a photo illustration provides to a page. Plus they're just a lot of fun for news photographers to do.
I got a sketch book too and should really start using it more for ideas.

More Horses
Just some stuff from over the summer.
Megan Essman, age 8, of the Purple Ribbon Club awaits the judges with her horse Casper at the 2008 Shawnee County 4-H Horse Show at the Livestock Pavilion at the Expocentre on Sunday.
Christian Stoner, age 7 of the Purple Ribbon Club walks back to the stables with his horse Spirit after judging at the 2008 Shawnee County 4-H Horse Show at the Livestock Pavilion at the Expocentre on Sunday.
ADAM SACASA / THE CAPITAL-JOURNAL Rancher Cathy Hoy, left, smiles as her grandson Henry Pudin gets some sense into his head by her son Josh Hoy. The group was waiting for a convoy of trucks to arrive so they could begin moving the cattle.
It's spring break for me so I need to do some job hunting. Then I'm out to the gym.

Horseshoe Making School: Day 2
Just some notes: It was cold in there. It's been pretty cold here in Macomb for the past few days. The only heat in the school comes from the forge's used to heat the metal. This is, as the title says, my second day in the school and I'll be back one more time before the student's semester is over in two weeks.
I got a lot of info the first time I went and wasn't sure what to say the second day. Ended up getting a lot more info so it worked out. Also got some clarification on a few things. Carol, the owner of the three horses in today, came in from Good Hope, IL, just a few miles up the road. Really nice, as was everyone there. Just need to get typing with the story and get more pictures of everyone working instead of just the detail shots I've been getting.

New baseball guys
I was in the square here in Macomb working for Horn Field Campus when the assistant sports editor called me for a portrait. Thought it'd be quick but had to wait for two interviews to finish. Didn't have any lighting besides the manual flash on a bracket which didn't seem to work at all. Really wish I could have set something up but maybe next time.
